YOUR NEW CAREER

For our branch in Basingstoke, UK, we are looking for an Project Engineer (m/f/d). You become part of a global team developing distributed fiber optic sensing solutions that help optimize critical infrastructure, protect people, and safeguard the environment. Using fiber optic cables as continuous sensors, we combine advanced photonics, measurement technology, and modern software to deliver reliable real-time insights along pipelines, power cables, railways, and other assets. In this role, you contribute to solutions deployed worldwide, working in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary engineering environment that values technical rigor, long-term quality, and practical innovation.


Aufgaben
  • Project engineering / delivery: Technical ownership of DFOS projects from design and preparation through FAT, commissioning, SAT and project completion.
  • Reporting / team structure: Report to the Project Engineering UK Team Lead, supporting projects primarily across the UK and Northern Ireland, as well as Europe and North and South America.
  • Customer-facing work: Direct communication with customers, technical discussions, project meetings, troubleshooting and follow-up activities.
  • Commissioning and site work: UK and international travel to customer sites, including commissioning, testing and offshore work where required.
  • Technical scope: Design, configuration and integration of DTS/DAS systems, fibre-optic sensing technology, networking/communications and associated hardware and software.
  • Project coordination: Coordinate technical activities across customers, suppliers, R&D, production, logistics, Project Management and other internal teams. Work as part of the wider Project Engineering team.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation including designs, BOMs, drawings, FAT/SAT documentation, commissioning reports, configuration backups and project handover information.
  • Problem solving and technical support: Diagnose technical issues, troubleshoot systems and coordinate solutions with internal technical teams.
  • Software and firmware testing: Support the testing, validation and troubleshooting of software and firmware releases and their application within customer projects.
  • Training and support: Deliver customer training and provide post-installation technical support where required.

Profil
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, communications technology, computer science, physics or a related technical discipline. Other relevant degrees will also be considered.
  • Experience: Relevant practical or industry experience is desirable, although recent graduates with the right technical aptitude and motivation are encouraged to apply.
  • Technical aptitude: Strong technical interest with the ability to learn new technologies and develop practical solutions. Knowledge of fibre optics, DFOS or measurement technology is advantageous but not essential.
  • Problem solving: Independent, analytical and solution-focused approach to technical and project-related challenges.
  • Communication: Confident and engaging communication style, with strong written, verbal and presentation skills in English and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • IT skills: Solid IT skills, particularly with Windows 10/11 and Windows Server. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD software is desirable.
  • Languages: Very good command of English is essential. German, Spanish or Portuguese language skills are advantageous.
  • Travel: Willing and able to travel regularly for customer projects, including offshore assignments. AP Sensing will provide the necessary offshore training and certification where required.
  • Driving: Hold a valid full UK driving licence.
  • UK work eligibility: Must have the right to work in the UK, such as UK citizenship, permanent residency or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
  • International travel: Ability to obtain the visas and/or travel authorisations required for international customer projects, particularly travel to the Americas. Existing valid authorisations are advantageous.
  • Location: Commutable to the AP Sensing UK office in Basingstoke, or willing to relocate as necessary.
